Who made this
Hi, I'm Dayne. I'm based in Mississauga, Ontario, and I built Zoovy in early 2026 as a personal project. I have a background in computer systems engineering (Carleton University) and previously worked in IT at the Dufferin-Peel Catholic School Board. I have no formal affiliation with any zoo, sanctuary, or wildlife organization.
I built this site because I genuinely couldn't find a decent, modern resource for discovering zoos and sanctuaries to visit in Canada and the United States. Most of what's out there is either an outdated directory, a single-zoo website, or a paywalled travel platform. So I made the thing I wanted to exist.
What Zoovy is
A free, ad-free directory of 262 zoos, safaris, sanctuaries, and nature reserves across North America — currently the United States and Canada, with more regions in active development. Every listing is curated by hand: location, species, descriptions, and links.
It also includes a Wildlife Watch page that tracks real recent and expected animal births at zoos across the continent — updated regularly.
What Zoovy is not
- I do not sell anything. There are no products, tickets, memberships, or services for sale on this site.
- I do not collect your data. There is no signup, no email list, no tracking pixels.
- I am not affiliated with any zoo, sanctuary, government, or business. Every listing is independent.
- I do not run ads. No banners, no popups, no sponsored content, no affiliate links.
How it's funded
It isn't. The site runs on minimal infrastructure (Cloudflare Pages, which is free for static sites), and the only ongoing cost is the domain renewal. I built it in my own time. If the site grows enough that zoos eventually want to partner with it for verified listings or promotion, that's a future I'd be open to — but right now there's no revenue stream and no plans to introduce one without disclosure.

Reporting issues
If you spot a zoo that's closed, a wrong description, a broken link, or a sanctuary I'm missing — please tell me. Every correction makes the site better. I respond to every email personally, usually within a day or two.
Want to be featured?
If you run a zoo, sanctuary, or wildlife reserve and want to ensure your listing is accurate (or get added to the site), I'd love to hear from you.
